China’s Trade Surplus Grows – For the month of July, China’s trade surplus grew to $31.5 billion, the highest level in nearly 2 ½ years.  However, economists will be watching export growth closely as U.S. and European markets face economic concerns.

Congestion Remains Problem for Chennai Port – The Port of Chennai is still experiencing severe congestion after a string of labor disputes dating back to June.  Some carriers are recommending shippers to divert cargo to other nearby ports in an effort to avoid the backlog.

China Reexamines High Speed Train Plans – After last month’s deadly high-speed train collision in China, the government is reviewing its rail infrastructure and expansion plans.  Speeds are being reduced and a major manufacturer has recalled 54 bullet trains due to safety concerns.
