Croatia Joins European Union – At the stroke of midnight on July 1st, Croatia officially became the 28th member state of the European Union (EU). Croatian officials promptly removed customs posts at the borders with Slovenia and Hungary and unveiled EU signs.

EU Proposes CO2 Emissions Monitoring Program – The European Union (EU) is proposing that all ships calling at its ports weighing 5,000 gross tons or more must measure and report their annual CO2 emissions beginning in 2018. The proposal must be approved by all 28 member states before it becomes the law.
