U.S. Partners with South Korea to Improve Air Cargo Security – The United States has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Korea to strengthen their partnership on air cargo security. The MoU will enhance cooperation and allow both countries to strengthen air cargo security, develop new supply chain technologies and conduct joint investigations.

Longshoremen Picket at the Port of Oakland – Longshoremen from the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) picketed at the Port of Oakland on Tuesday in opposition of a legal settlement that will provide fewer jobs for union members. The picketers prevented some ships from being unloaded and trucks from delivering shipments.

Unions go on Strike in Brazil – Brazilian unions recognize July 11th as “National Struggle Day” and have gone on strike as a result. Protestors have blocked highways and shut down access to Port Santos. Dockworkers had also gone on strike for 6 hours the day before and held up 13 container ships. “National Struggle Day” is a demand for improvements in Brazil’s public services.

China Implements New Shipping Policies – China has introduced a number of supportive policies that will be implemented in the second half of the year. The Ministry of Transport is striving to use the new policies to reduce unreasonable fees and support shipping companies through an industry downturn.
