ILWU Recommends Contract Approval – Late last week came word that the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU are recommending approval of the proposed contract with the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA). 78% of delegates at the union’s caucus voted to recommend approval. The actual vote is expected on May 22nd.

Amazon Receives Green Light from FAA on Drone Testing – After a few short weeks, The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved Amazon’s new application to test their drone delivery system in the U.S. A previous application took 6 months for approval and, by that time, the approved drones were already obsolete. This is part of the FAA’s commitment to speed up regulatory decisions related to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Long Wait Times Plague NY-NJ Ports – Record container volume in the Ports of New York and New Jersey is leading to major congestion problems. A combination of larger vessels servicing the ports as well as overflow cargo due to the West Coast congestion led to the current issues. Truckers are reporting up to 5 mile long lines to pick up containers.
