Map of XiamenThe Port of Xiamen, a natural deep water port, was made a Special Economic Zone in 1980. Ranked the 8th largest container port in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the 19th biggest in the world, the port is capable of serving mega-sized container vessels and was the first mainland port to start direct shipments of cargo to the mainland and Taiwan.

Climate and Geography:

The Port of Xiamen is known as the “Garden of the Sea” due to the natural harbor’s warm humid subtropical climate. The port is located in the mouth of the Jiulongjiang River on the southeast coastline of China’s Fujian Province.
