An AES filing is an electronic export declaration submitted through the U.S. Automated Export System for shipments that meet filing requirements. It provides Electronic Export Information to the U.S. government, including exporter, consignee, commodity, value, destination, Schedule B or HTS code, licence details, and transport information. AES filings support export control enforcement, trade statistics, and proof of export. Exporters or authorised agents must file accurately and on time to avoid penalties, shipment delays, or compliance issues.
AES Filing is the submission of Electronic Export Information (EEI) through the U.S. Automated Export System, required for most commercial exports valued over $2,500 per Schedule B number or for any licensed export.
Requirements
- Filing must be completed before cargo departs the U.S.
- The ITN generated by AES must appear on shipping documents
- Late or missing filings can trigger CBP holds and civil penalties
