AES, or Automated Export System, is the U.S. electronic system used to file export shipment information with the government. Exporters, freight forwarders, and authorised agents use AES to submit Electronic Export Information for shipments that meet filing requirements. The filing supports export control enforcement, trade statistics, licence checks, and proof of export. AES data may include exporter, consignee, commodity, value, destination, Schedule B or HTS code, licence information, and transport details.
The Automated Export System (AES) is the U.S. Census Bureau system for collecting Electronic Export Information (EEI) from exporters and forwarders through the ACE portal.
When Filing Is Required
- Exports with a single Schedule B commodity valued over $2,500
- Any export requiring a license
- Exports to embargoed or sanctioned destinations
- Goods subject to EAR or ITAR regulations
The ITN generated by AES must appear on export documents before cargo departs.
