An E2, or Import Entry Acceptance Advice, is a customs message confirming that an import declaration has been received and accepted for processing by the customs system. In import logistics, it tells the importer or customs broker that the entry data has passed initial validation and can move forward for assessment, routing, release checks, or payment processing. An E2 does not always mean the goods are fully released; further customs review, inspections, duty payment, or agency checks may still be required.
An E2 is the official HMRC (UK) electronic notification confirming that a customs import entry has been accepted for processing. It is issued after the customs declaration is validated and the customs entry reference is assigned.
- Issued by HMRC through the CDS or CHIEF system
- Serves as confirmation that the import entry is legally submitted and under CBP review
- The entry reference number on the E2 is required for subsequent queries and amendments
- Cargo cannot be legally cleared without an accepted entry confirmed by an E2 or equivalent release message
