Inventory Linked

Inventory linked means that a customs declaration or shipment record is electronically connected to the physical inventory record held by a port, terminal, airport, warehouse, or inventory control system. In customs logistics, this link helps authorities verify that the declared goods match the cargo actually held at the location before release. In ecommerce, inventory linked can also describe stock levels that are synchronised across sales channels, warehouses, marketplaces, and fulfilment systems to prevent overselling.

Inventory linked in a logistics context refers to a fulfillment or supply chain model where stock levels, orders, and shipments are connected in real time between trading partners through EDI, API, or a shared warehouse management system. This enables automatic replenishment, order routing, and inventory visibility.

  • Enables automatic reorder triggers when stock falls below a minimum level
  • Reduces manual order processing and communication errors
  • Required by many large retailers for vendor-managed inventory programs
  • Common in 3PL arrangements where the warehouse system links to the client’s ERP
