Stop-Off Fee

A stop-off fee is an extra transportation charge applied when a shipment requires an additional pickup or delivery stop along the same route. Instead of a direct move from one origin to one destination, the carrier must spend more time, mileage, labour, and planning on a multi-stop shipment. Stop-off fees are common in trucking, less-than-truckload freight, and distribution routes where cargo may be picked up from or delivered to multiple locations.

A stop-off fee is charged when a truck makes an additional pickup or delivery stop beyond the single origin or destination in a standard trucking contract. Each additional stop adds driver time, fuel, and routing complexity.

  • Common in LTL multi-stop deliveries and FTL shipments with multiple delivery points
  • Rate per stop varies by carrier and distance between stops
  • Typically ranges from $50 to $200 per additional stop
  • Consolidating deliveries to fewer stops reduces stop-off fees
