CTPAT

CTPAT, or Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism, is a voluntary U.S. Customs and Border Protection programme that helps secure international supply chains against terrorism, smuggling, and other security risks. Importers, carriers, brokers, manufacturers, and logistics providers can participate by meeting security criteria for facilities, personnel, procedures, cargo handling, and business partners. CTPAT members may benefit from stronger supply chain controls, reduced inspection risk, faster processing, and closer cooperation with CBP.

Benefits of C-TPAT Certification

  • Reduced frequency of CBP cargo examinations
  • Expedited processing at U.S. ports and border crossings
  • Access to the Free and Secure Trade (FAST) lane at land borders
  • Eligibility for certain CBP account management programs

Who Can Apply

  • U.S. importers
  • Customs brokers and freight forwarders
  • Ocean and air carriers
  • Foreign manufacturers exporting to the U.S.

C-TPAT certification requires documentation of security procedures and periodic validation by CBP. Carriers approved under C-TPAT can apply for Fast Tags, the transponder identifiers that speed up processing at U.S. land border crossings.
