Delivery Labor Fee

A delivery labor fee is an extra charge applied when a carrier, driver, or delivery crew must provide physical assistance beyond standard delivery service. It may apply when freight needs to be unloaded, moved by hand, carried inside, positioned, unpacked, assembled, or handled without proper receiving equipment. In LTL, final-mile, furniture, appliance, and white glove delivery, labor fees help cover additional time, personnel, equipment, and handling required at the destination.

A delivery labor fee is charged when additional manual labor is required to unload, carry, or position freight at the delivery point beyond standard tailgate delivery. It applies when the driver must bring goods inside a building, up stairs, or to a specific room.

  • Common in white-glove delivery services for furniture, appliances, and equipment
  • Charged per hour or per delivery depending on the carrier
  • Different from inside delivery, which is a standard accessorial with a set rate
  • Residential and small-business deliveries are most likely to incur delivery labor fees
