ningbo china at nightTruckers Strike in Ningbo – Truckers in Ningbo, China began striking this week.  Major roads to the Port of Ningbo terminal and container yard were severely congested or completely blocked. The protesting truckers seek to raise transportation rates.  The dispute has reportedly been resolved late this week, however, delays for shipments to/from Ningbo may be significant.

Israeli Ship Target of Oakland Protests – Israel based carrier, Zim Integrated Shipping Lines, was the target of protests in the Port of Oakland this week.  Four days of protests delayed unloading of a Zim vessel as pro-Palestinian demonstrators voiced their dissatisfaction over the continuing Gaza conflict.  The vessel left port on Wednesday for its return journey to Asia.

Maersk’s Record Setting Voyage Arrives in China – Last month, the MV Mary Maersk departed Spain with a record 17,603 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU).  The stated full capacity of this class of vessel is 18,270 TEU; however, this is the largest load carried so far.  The ship arrived in Yantian earlier this week.
