Brazil Truckers Block Roads – Thousands of truckers are holding protest blockades across Brazil to protest low wages. Truckers are threatening to expand the blockages in the coming days if their demands are not met. The government intervened earlier this year when similar protests were staged.

German Rail Drivers Launch 2nd Strike – Drivers for the German national rail operator, Deutsche Bahn (DB), launched their second strike this week. One-fifth of Germany’s freight, roughly 1 million tons daily, is transported by rail. Drivers are looking for pay raises and the right to negotiate on behalf of other DB employees.

LA/Long Beach Port Volumes Surge in March – Container traffic increased by 32% at the Port of Long Beach and 17.3% at the Port of Los Angeles for the month of March compared to last year. This marked the second highest month in the history of Los Angeles with 800,063 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs). This surge can be attributed to efforts at clearing the backlog of congested containers. For Q1 in total, both ports’ volumes are down slightly compared to 2014.
