The relationship has grown over the years and the two cities are being awarded the 2014 U.S.-China Sister Cities Award in the “economy and trade” category by Sister Cities International. The award recognizes them for outstanding achievements in trade and economic exchange.

New Bill to Help Port of NY/NJ Remain Competitive – A new bill prohibiting the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey from imposing a cargo facility charge on users, ocean common carriers and marine terminal operators without a mutual written agreement has been approved by the full assembly and is to be reviewed by the governor. The bill will help protect the port’s competitiveness by supporting commerce and jobs, and protecting economic activity in the state.

New Container Port in India – Last month the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests approved clearance for the Vizhinjam International Sea Port project in Kerala, India. The port is projected to cost Rs 4,010 crore and has potential as a mega container transshipment port.
