Global San Diego Export Plan Released – The Port of San Diego has released a Global San Diego Export Plan. The plan provides a framework for increasing exports through education, outreach, and improvements to the area’s infrastructure.

Port Strike in France – The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) union called a 24-hour strike on Thursday in protest of a 2008 port reform that transferred some port workers from the public sector to the private sector. The strike held up six vessels inside the port and disrupted about 85 percent of port activity. The CGT has also called for a one day strike on February 12th.

Panama Canal Expansion Put on Hold – The Panama Canal Expansion was suspended on Wednesday, February 5th when negotiations between the construction group and the Panama Canal Authority over cost overruns broke down. The authority was given one month to pay and work was suspended when no agreement was reached.

Canada and Israel to Discuss CIFTA – The first round of free trade negotiations to expand and modernize the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement (CIFTA) have been announced and will be held this week. Modernizing the CIFTA will enhance bilateral trade, enhance cooperation, and reduce transaction costs for businesses.
