FAA Halts Israel Flights – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) banned flights to Israel’s Tel Aviv airport this week after a missile hit within a mile of the airport. This news comes in the wake of the downing of passenger flight MH-17 over Ukrainian airspace. The FAA lifted the ban later in the week.

Hamburg Süd Acquire Chile Carrier – Germany based Hamburg Süd signed an agreement to acquire the container operations of the Chilean carrier Compañía Chilena de Navegación Interoceánica (CCNI). The deal would make Hamburg Süd the 11th ranked carrier in terms of fleet size. CCNI will continue to operate its non-liner activities such as car carrying services.

Typhoon Matmo Hits Taiwan – Typhoon Matmo hit Taiwan this week as authorities ordered business and schools closed on the country’s east coast. Additionally, dozens of flights were canceled and over 30,000 customers were left without power.
